The University of Southern California (USC) Trojans football team began live in the late 1800s. Their name was established in 1912 -- after years of being called the Methodists or Wesleyans. USC Trojans football teams competed in 28 Rose Bowl games, and won 20 of them. USC gleaned a ideal record in 1973 -- an accomplishment it holds alone among the major college teams. The USC Trojans team, led by Matt Leinart, is now trying to earn another perfect record in NCAA football's Division I-A books with the 2004 season -- they were 2003 national co-champions. Thanks in part to USC Trojans' winning record; the NFL has a longstanding history of drafting USC players. Some popular USC Trojans players who went on to the Pros include O. J. Simpson, Carson Palmer, Keyshawn Johnson, and Ron Yary. In 2003, 24 former USC players were represent in the 32 NFL teams. In 1888 college football, it was particularly important to have a good kicker. When the USC Trojans played football in 1888, touchdowns were worth 4 points and field goals were worth five. History has shown that USC players can't take cold weather. After losing to Notre Dame throughout a cold November game in South Bend in1959, USC proposed that the teams discontinue having November games in South Bend -- a tradition that continues today. USC only plays Notre Dame in South Bend in October. When the teams play in Southern California, games are held in November.
